The Spectrum of Wealth and How Strong Humanity Used To Be
Industrialized nations have more of a tendency to have income be based on merit, but third world countries do not. For example, someone who consistently works hard for as long as it takes in an industrialized nation is more likely to (sooner or later) be well off, but someone who consistently works hard in a third world country for as long as it takes probably will not be well off because third world countries don't have these kinds of opportunities.
Actually, when thinking of what it means to be "well off," it's a vast spectrum. The spectrum is as follows, in order of most scarce to least scarce in the context of monetary wealth/resources:
1. Homeless and starving to death in a third world country.
2. Having a very crude home in a third world country but working all day to barely have enough food to eat, and/or being malnourished.
3. Being homeless in an industrialized nation. (This is higher than #2 because most homeless people in industrialized nations have better access to enough food and generally don't have to work all day. Some are homeless and employed though. There are examples that are not covered in this spectrum.)
4. Paying rent in an industrialized nation and living paycheck to paycheck (the lower end of 5 figure income).
5. Owning a home in an industrialized nation and being able to save up a nest egg over time (lower middle class).
6. Making 6 figure income (higher middle class).
7. Millionaire
8. Multimillionaire
9. Billionaire
10. Multibillionaire
Observations:
I myself am in category 4, but a tad better, as I'm in a lucky position to be able to save a bit at the same time. This 'lucky position' will not last for too much longer though (long story).
I often view myself as being a loser because of being in category 4, but from the perspective of categories 1-3, I live like a King. Someone in a third world country would do anything to be where I'm at. Those above my category may not even be comprehensible to those living in third world countries, because it's so far away on the spectrum. Likewise, I myself cannot conceive of what it would be like to be a multimillionaire.
To multibillionaires, millionaires and 6 figure income people and everyone below them are perceived as losers. Of course, everyone wants to be higher on the spectrum. 6 figure income people are unhappy because they want to be millionaires, and millionaires are unhappy because they want to be multimillionaires and billionaires, and so forth. (Not everyone is unhappy of course, but there's always a longing for more.)
There's also this type of existence to consider, that is completely outside the above spectrum, mentioned by Siris King:
And yes, these people have epic microbiomes!
Here is a tribe dancing around a fire:
Here's a really nice music video in Africa:
(Thank you to Siris King for these finds!)
Why am I posting on Africa? All humanity, regardless of race, originally came from Africa, and being able to see how humanity originally lived allows for a much better perspective when it comes to the spectrum.
Humanity used to be strong enough (and a very small part still is) to be outside the systems we have today. It's important for people to know this because it allows people to be internally liberated from the mental prison of monetary status, where people constantly compare themselves to each other.
